Day 31 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

REFLECTION TIME!! I realized things that lie on the fringes of my comfort zone are what I need to dive knee deep into! I recognize my strengths and weaknesses as a person and I'm motivated to strive for more. I can't wait after my little break all the great things I have to share with the blog, and all the time to find a necessary focus for the blog, until then toodles!

Day 30 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Hello, new day, hello new energy, hello new strength I welcome you like a sweet old friend. I'll be verging on my next semester at the university. I may have to stay on campus next semester as well which means new classes. I'm not as terrified of the concept of me joining the dorms on campus,  as I was beforehand I have to keep a positive head and hopefully a single room opens. I'm fairly happy I did this challenge because it made me aware of where I stand with myself. Tomorrow is the last day of all my challenges and the last time I blog for about a month or so. I am not saying goodbye to the blog, simply see you later I need more reflection on what I want to do with the blog, and reflecting on myself as well.

Day 29 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

I forgive myself, for all the embarrassing things I've done. From tripping to inappropriate laughter, and awkward social behavior I forgive myself for each of these incidences. You ever stay up, even though you originally had every plan to substantially sleep but you're bothered by something you did, at least 5 years ago that buzzes through your head, let it go. I'm letting all my mistakes go, they're over and done it's the past and I'm only human. I forgive me.

Also here's the OOTD! My latest outfit is a top from Rainbow, the jacket is thrifted, and the jeans I believe are BONGO.

Days 26, 27, and 28 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Day 26 was a fail at staying away from social networks simply because I forgot about that specific challenge, so I'll try doing it Monday.

Day 27 my new theme song is Anything Could Happen by Ellie Goulding for the sole reason that it's upbeat and has been my go to, wake me up song.

Day 28 I'm currently thinking of more detail and synonyms to add some diversity to my resume.

Finally, I'm quite sorry for the lack of posting lately but I've been extremely tired between papers, projects and midterms and even though I love blogging, grades come first, but I plan on doing an OOTD each day this week, I'm planning it as we speak!

  3. Nike started off selling shoes from the back of his trunk.
  4. I have a good speech giving voice.
  5. I need a better workout schedule.
  6. Flint, Michigan isn't as dangerous as everyone assumes.

Day 24 of The Comfort Zone Challenge and an OOTD

Hey guys, I spent the day focusing on slaying my midterm and sparkling in my gold sequin covered collar. My top is from Forever21 and it's currently my favorite. I'm huge on getting dressed like a champion for exams and midterms.

Day 24 is about writing a letter to your younger self, I decided to write to my 11 year old self.

Dear 11 year old me,
Nothing is wrong with you, changes are apart of life and we are indeed strong enough to handle them. I know you think being the new kid is the end of the world but it's not. Don't try so hard to fit in, be yourself and you'll find your place. Remember, not everyone is going to like you and that's ok because I'm pretty sure there are people you don't entirely enjoy. Life isn't always daisies and sunshine but we hold the power to what we want to feel. You are beautiful and so strong those who want to bash you and belittle you realize your shine which is why they seek to put it out. Never lose your light, we must keep pushing on and we will remain champions I promise it gets so much better.

Days 22 and 23 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

My D.I.Y. project is still very much so in the process, I keep going from one idea to the next but it will be done! Day 23 as in today, I decided my new word shall be fantastic, there's a happy drama to the term that I love now. I would love to stay far more updated on these posts but I've got a feeling I'm going on a post hiatus after this month. Every now and then it's good to take a vacation from the blog(not that it's a bad job) to refresh your techniques recognize the path you want the blog to take. I'm all about relaxing and releasing right about now especially around my midterms.

What To Wear To An Exam

You're looking at the title scoffing at the mere idea of dressing a certain way to an exam and that's fine but I for one am developing my own little ritual as far as midterms, and exams and this is how I want to go about it. When going into an exam you can be nervous, frightened and panicked but fear not dress in something you feel good in and I promise the feeling will spread. I pick out one of my favorite outfits and will wear it to my midterm Oct. 24th and I will look fabulous my make up will be superb and I will ace my exam, because I studied, I made the effort and I feel darn good about it!

Positive energy, is necessary if you want to dominate and destroy this exam! You have to make it your business to treat yourself especially exam day! Look good, eat well, feel good, study hard and you have all the necessary weapons to win this war I promise!

Day 20 Of The Comfort Zone Challenge

  I learned:

  1. I need more organization!
  2. Getting out of one's comfort zone can be fun!
  3. I like trying new things!
  4. I'm a lot stronger, and can adjust a lot more than I thought I could.
  5. Never to underestimate myself.
Simply in the last 10 days all these awesome lessons, have managed to make themselves present and I look forward to more!

Day 19 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

My wrist is sore, from all the popping of the rubber band for every negative thought I had throughout the day. I actually didn't do awful on this challenge but I could do better. As exams, presentations and essays begin to collide while at school I find I haven't been as optimistic as I could be and I am going to make a serious change.

Day 18 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Today, is all about LOVE. Tell some people you randomly love them today simply because you do! I told my mother, my brother I believe my dad that I love them but someone who I admit I've neglected needed to hear those words as well..myself. I beat myself up on so many things so harshly, I'm my own world's worse critic and recently I've been really hard on myself but today I want to take a moment to appreciate who I am, and love my flaws. There's beauty in everyone's imperfections but I tend to forget that philosophy when reflecting on myself, but today I want to love my flaws look at them and smile instead of cringe and scoff in disgust as I normally would. I love who I am, I love who I am becoming, I love me.

Day 17 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Day 17 of the comfort zone challenge and I decided to change my look by not having any makeup on at all. Be prepared for my naked face and an outfit of the day!

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

Day 16 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Hey guys, today is the day I go about doing blog posts differently and I decided to film my Outfit of The Day for a change(hitting 2 birds with one stone!)

Monday, October 15, 2012

Day 14 and Day 15

Day 14's workout was basically: FALL CLEANING. I went through all of my other clothes and all throughout my closet and really organized a lot of looks. After working up a sweat, the creative juices were going and I picked out a lot of different looks. I'm going to try and do an outfit of the day each time this week and guys be sure to check out my Instagram @deejayzface I posted a mini out fit look on there recently and you can always check out my Instagram pictures on my facebook page!
Day 15, I tossed out some old clothes I don't need anymore. I love that I had extra room for all my clothes after I cleaned up. Cleaning and getting rig of unnecessary items is so therapeutic!

By the way you seriously need to check up on both and my instagram I know the blog has been picture-dry so you can always catch up on my looks there until I get back into the groove of doing OOTDs again.

Days 13 and 14 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Day 13 of the Comfort Zone Challenge kind of got away from me(darn university exams!!!) , but I did indeed confront a grudge and it's a personal grudge and I'm more comfortable keeping it to myself but I can say I do feel a lot better. You never know just how much extra baggage you're carrying until you let it go and look at all of what you lugged around on your shoulders. I feel a lot better about a lot of things now that I've faced down the chip that once laid on my shoulder and I feel like I'm better prepared to move forward and make a few changes.

Day 14 of the Comfort Zone Challenge I'm going to try a new workout, but first I have to get some more studying done. I'll have the results of that tomorrow toodles!

Hey guys, for today's challenge I entered Maybabytumbler's bagluxe giveaway check out her videos by the way the one below features some serious cute fall trends!

Day 11 Of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Speaking up has been fairly easy for me. I never really recognized how speaking up used to be such a paralyzing activity and now it comes as easy as breathing to me. Today's speaking up challenge was simple, and felt more effortless than an actual challenge. Today I learned more about appreciating the skills I already have versus constantly trying to attain more. I'm taking the day to appreciate who I am now, so becoming who I want to be will be less of a challenge and more of a right of passage like its destined to be.

Day 10 of The Comfort Zone

Hey guys, first thing I'd like to say about today is how amazing it is that's already 10 days into the challenge.  I remember looking all the way back at the first few instances I had at school and was so panicked and thinking the world was practically falling apart but here I am and I think I'm doing pretty well! I've made great leaps at college going to different places, navigating campus, meeting new people, speaking up, and taking more initiative. I proud of the skills I'm developing and I'm happy for all the growth I've made. The Comfort Zone challenge is an excellent way to practice the randomness that is life and taking more things by chance, and I need to grow more comfortable with that and I'm slowly but surely am.
Today is the day of reflection, and I'm reflecting that I'm a lot more flexible than I thought I was. I realize I'm not necessarily as stick in the mud as I thought I was and that I actually change. I'm happier with myself and can feel my confidence blossom even further as I discover that there actually is a lot more to who I am then simply whining and crying about change. I love the fact that I'm using the words "I can" a lot more than can't.

Black Cats and Purple!

I bought another darn lipstick....The lipstick was only 99 cent but I feel slightly guilty all the same,I mustn't develop such a habit of splurge buying.  I also bought a pack of earrings they were merely 2 dollars but still I'm not in the position for random buys. I'm going to seriously go on a shopping hiatus, but as for now I want to share with you my Shiny Purple by Ruby Kisses! The lipstick goes on smoothly and is moisturizing and very cheap!

Are those black cats on my ears?

Yes indeed!

Oh and I want to share with you my other recent splurge these stud earrings!

I'm really going to work on my mini shopping addiction, I am!

Day 9 of The Comfort Zone

I'd like to do a quick recap of yesterday's  meditation and I do believe I've found something I shall practice a lot more. I meditated the other day and I slept so well, and all my jumpy nerves seemed to disappear. I had an exam today, one of my first in my class and it did initially have me worried but after some focus on clearing my head I felt so much better. I watched a new show as well I watched The Long Island Medium, and I'm still slightly a skeptic when it comes to mediums and other concepts of that matter but this lady was on it!! As for today's challenge I spoke to a lovely young lady, and strangely enough I've found my conversation skills to not be nearly as dead as they can come off as. It felt good conversing with someone new to me. I'm truly enjoying and appreciating this challenge a lot, its keeping things interesting.

The Mane

Hey guys I decided to partake in some protective styling with these chunky box braids that I love so much. Box braids are so cheap and easy to do, and they don't take nearly as much time as some of the other styles I've done. I'm reminded that I'm currently about 3 years natural, I'm quite proud that I haven't been necessarily tempted to cut  or even perm my hair! My natural hair routine hasn't changed much either. My regimen currently goes a little something like this:

  1. Every other week I rinse my hair, pre-condition, wash, deep condition and then rinse it out again. I seal in the moisture with oil, or whatever styling product I'm using to twist and stretch my hair.
  2. On a day to day basis I use a styling product to twist my hair every night and I use a spray leave in specifically Aussie Moist on my hair on  a day to day basis.
  3.   When I have my hair in braids I wash my scalp every two weeks and maintain moisture and sealing it in with oil.
My main priorities when doing my hair is all about sealing in moisture, because I want length but I'm in need of more thickness to my hair as well, so I'm going to switch it up a little.

Every other week I'll rinse my hair, pre-condition, wash, deep condition and then rinse it out again, but now I'll do a hot oil treatment once a month and a protein treatment every two months.

The products I'm currently using are African's Ultimate Herbal Oil, Aussie's Leave-in, Roots of Nature Shea Butter and Tea Tree Oil Reconstructing Deep Treatment as my deep conditioner and let me tell you guys that deep conditioner is amazing! My hair feels so soft after using this new product in comparison to the Aussie 5 minute deep conditioner its nice, but the Shea Butter and Tea Tree Oil deep conditioner is a lot more conditioning, and thicker, which my hair responds to a lot better.

Day 7 and 8

I was too emotionally wound up, on Sunday watch Steel Magnolias and inadvertently forgot to meditate for an hour, so I'm doing that today and I have to figure out what new show to try for today as well. I know I haven't been blogging nearly as much as I used to, and you guys are probably still adjusting to some of the changes on the blog but I'm working out some glitches as we speak and I'm working on better time management. By the way leave a comment of one of your favorite TV shows if I've never watched it before I might check it out! I'm happy I'm doing another challenge, not specifically because it's pushing me to try new things but more along the lines that it helps me pace the days. I remember looking back at the very beginning of the school year and I was so stressed out about how I'm going to get there, who's going to pay for it and a million other issues that popped up and I'm amazed at how far I've come in merely a few months. I'm so grateful for this push to try new things, and to get stronger I'm getting so much more out of this school situation than I thought I would.

Day 6 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Cleaning up my iPod was refreshing and made me excited to add new music. Music is a HUGE part of my life so getting rid of old songs did indeed bring back old memories, but it was time to let those go. I saw songs I added from eons ago that were really sad and depressing that reflected my state of mind but it's time to let go of the baggage. I know cleaning up one's music library isn't a big deal but it was semi-therapeutic for me and now I have more room to add more Marina and The Diamonds songs, Primadonna Girl is what I pick out outfits to, and it puts me in happy mood. I even created a play, a little something that'll definitely aid in waking me up in the morning. How do you guys feel after cleaning up your iPod?

Day 5 of the Comfort Zone Challenge

I wore my ankle boots today on campus. I told myself never to wear a heel on campus when traveling from block to block but I did it. I did the impossible and my feet don't even feel threatened to fall off. I love walking around campus in these little heels, I feel taller and stronger I stride a lot more. Runway walking is the easiest thing to do in these shoes, especially down an empty hallway!

A Pet Peeve

I have been subject to hearing the term "female" in ill-mannered context, referring to women in slang terms repeatedly and I've had enough. You're wondering "what wrong with simply stating female you are a woman", it's the context in which the word is used that bothers me. I've heard the term be used in instances such as, "Man, these females are crazy". "What about you and that female?" caveman-like isn't it. Some of you won't understand the phrases being used but it's a growing typical saying in the slang using world and I would appreciate the termination of it's growing popularity. Referring to a woman as strictly female, strips her of a name, and uses a broad scientific term to identify her. Female can be in reference to anything a dog, fish, bear so it almost dehumanizes the woman in question. I've been referred to as strictly female before and I hated it, and in turn let the person saying it "have it". He said it in this specific context: "Ayye female, pass me my book", if that doesn't sound just somewhat off setting to some, then I suggest those who find nothing wrong with the above statement to feel free to scroll on down my page, past this post.
I have a name, a nickname, I'm more than simply "female", I'm a young woman there's a level of maturity and recognizable background to myself that I will not let go unnoticed. It may not seem like a large issue to you, but would it be different if I called every guy simply male, or male being? We must not dehumanize one another with these terms that can come off rude and or disrespectful and finally if you know my name USE IT.

Day 4 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Today is an extremely late post but I've been semi busy with school but I wanted to share with you guys today's reflection. Saying hi to random people will surely put you in a place of feeling awkward and feeling free at the same time. Hi is a lot more than just hi, saying hi you're provoking someone to acknowledge your presence and in so letting others realize you see them to. The littlest things do have a lot of impact.

Day 3 of the Comfort Zone Challenge

"You're never fully dressed without a smile".

I did it guys I smiled 6x at random people. I felt awkward and a lot of people indeed smiled back and some kind of frown/smirked. I realize a smile is nice to receive from time to time and that it can kind if make a difference to your day. I'm proud of myself for going through with this.

In Love With Nick

I realize the most fun I have at school, is that I get to dressed up however I please without the slightest humbug. Some days I show up bright as can be, other days I like the chicest dawn of the dead diva, I'm loving this new found freedom! The hallways(when no one is around to see) is a place to practice one's catwalk. I figured it's been a moment since you've last seen my face so here it is! By the way I posted a mini OOTD on my facebook page and you can also catch it on Pose my username is deejayposes, and don't forget I post so much stuff on my instagram @deejayzface, that you may have very well missed *gasp*.

I'm wearing my current favorite lippy Brilliant Fuchsia by Nicka K.(I think I'm a lipstick addict guys...I need help eep!) Nicka K, by the way is a very moisturizing lipstick and it goes on very well, it's not extremely matte, but after a few glides you get a very pigmented lip, it's cheap and goes on smooth. I'm falling for Nick...Nicka K that is.

Day 2 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

The pep talk of all pep talks is about to go down!
You are so much more than what you think you are. Inside of you lies the keys to take on the world. You optimism gives off such a strength it can break through the darkest of nights and shun the most powerful of fears. Your family supports, your friends support you, God is by your side and the universe is your playground not your enemy. How dare you ever shudder at the idea of taking a brilliant step out into the world when you have so much to receive and so much to give. The positive energy is infinite, and so is your strength use it. You know what to do, you know how, the blue prints are sketched in your head you can do this, you can get through it all. You've been blessed with all the tools and knowledge necessary to take on everyday and any struggle. Your heart may race a bit faster in the face of change and new things but that's natural to react in such a way but the heartbeat racing doesn't have to be in fear, what if that's excitement and not fear? Don't rip the carpet from underneath your own feet, take strong steps to your future it's all right there in front of you, the only thing strong enough to hold you back is yourself use that strength to propel forward, whether you fall on your face or not at least you're still moving.

Amazing Much?!I, is pretty amazing indeed. I sat down in my car, my parents in the front seats my mother turned her head to tell me I received a package. Confusion immediately fed into my head and just as quickly cleared when I realized my package has arrived!! sent me about 13 pairs of earrings!
The earrings price ranges are from 2.00 dollars to perhaps 2.50 I believe and trust me on a college student budget that's saying something! You get free shipping after spending 10 dollars and you can use my name Dinesha Johnson at the check out, to get 10% off your purchase! I need to stop abusing the exclamation button but I can't help it, the earrings are of good quality and designs range from roaring black panther earrings to pink and white floral earrings to hoops and dangles and oh my!
I only wanted predominantly stud earrings because I love stud earrings with character, you know something medium to small with that extra touch. I was very happy to find the earrings weren't tiny( I have bought earrings via the interwebs in hopes of getting a decent sized bauble for my ears only to look at an earring the size of a dust particle). The quality is very good, the size is decent the price is affordable and shopaholic friendly. I just keep looking at my earrings sitting across from me, all these OOTD ideas keep emerging into my head today has been a great day!

Each of these earrings were about 2.50  and remember use the code Dinesha Johnson for 10% at the check out toodles love by the way have you seen my comfort zone challenge

Day 1 of The Comfort Zone Challenge

Today's current comfort zone challenge exercise it to define my comfort zone. My comfort zone is home and all the people and things that remind me of it. My comfort zone lies with my immediate family, my bed, my house, sleep those are all places of comfort for me. I'm comfortable with writing, drawing, talking to my familiar friends I've known for a number of years. My comfort zone lies in the people around me. I might not hang out with my friends like I used to but they're only a tweet,FB message, or text message away. My comfort zone lies in driving to school with my mother always there. My mother plays such a huge roll I never quite recognized in my comfort zone. My comfort zone is with my family and friends.
