Day 30: The Damaged Jean

When I think damaged jeans I think of
A. Grunge
B. Simple chic
C. Make sure it's warm outside before leaving in a pair because having cold knees are a pain!

Damaged jeans are one of those pieces that I put in my "Lazy Day Wardrobe" right next to a pair of jeggings, oversized sweater, and favorite white shirt. The jeans are so simple and yet have so much associated edginess that you can't help but look like you put effort in your look without doing so.I'm excited to stock up on some jeans from the thrift store so I can personalize them and beat them up, how I want.
One style in this damaged denim trend I'm really falling for is beat up colored denim.I'd love a pair of pastel pink skinny jeans with a few rips in them!
Are you down with damaged jeans or do they just look sloppy to you?

Day 28:Another Moodboard For The Road

Sometimes I can lose a bit of my fashion mojo, which is what produces these moodboards! This board is a mix of vintage and modern fashion(do you see Danielle Fishell(a.k.a. Topanga from Boy Meets World my first hair crush) and Rider Strong(Shawn Hunter from Boy Meets World, one of the 1st crushes I've ever had) in that cute ad at the top.I'm torn in a world where I want to go back to the 90s or have a chance at living in the 80s versus having specific interests in some current fashion trends at the moment.

My nostalgia has been borderline overwhelming and this is a decent reflection of that.I don't know how to shake this desire for the past perhaps I can use it to my advantage.

Day 27:Is This Preppy Though?

As you all know my style is currently in fashion limbo.I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing with my look as of late and it's kind of freeing.I'm excited to step outside of my comfort zone and find something new. My comfort zone has always consisted of spikes, black, blue, plaid and blazers so I'm trying to step away from those things slightly(not leave them behind, but more so loosen our bond).
A look in particularly that's outside of my comfort zone(like on another planet), is preppy style oriented outfits. I've never really been a button up, lacey detail, pressed skirt kind of girl.Preppy looks always seemed out of reach for me because I always associated them with characters like Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, or some other queen bee of high school.
Life is too short to withhold myself because of how I associate a certain style.I'll be giving preppy looks a try!

Is This Preppy Though #3

Is This Preppy Though?

Is This Preppy Though #2

I'm such a novice when it comes to preppy styled looks it really took some research and effort to put these sets together and I'm still not sure if I did a good job, lol. Let me know in the comments if these looks scream preppy to you?

Day 26: You Can't Wear That To The Grocery Store

Perhaps sequins are saved for special occasions and the reason we’re instructed not to wear them all the time is because it takes the special-ness out of them if we wear them a lot…That still doesn’t stop me from wanting to wear sequins to the grocery store without being stared at, lol. I've been wanting to wear a little sequin skirt or sequin shorts but haven’t had the occasion to do so yet!

The 2 looks above are some sequin oriented outfits I definitely want to try! Both are pretty good date night or club looks so I'll keep this post in mind when I finally develop a social life.Am I the only one who imagines the going out outfit before making going out plans?

Day 25: Laser Cut Detail

Details are big with me. You guys don’t understand my excitement when I notice an item for what it is, and then see some tiny peculiar detail.Little details makes an item that much more interesting for me.From little things like, prints that lie inside of the rolled up sleeves of a blazer, necklaces with intricate designs, shoes with contrasting textures-details show just how much effort a creator has gone into their creation.
I look at little details like my own sweet little secret. For example, to some my grey blazer is a simple neutral colored, staple piece. But I noticed that on the buttons of my blazer there's a little insignia that’s carved into them, making it that much more attractive. Recently a few more details that have captured my attention this year are:

Laser Cut Moodboard

Laser Cut Moodboard by deejaystyles featuring floral earrings

Laser cut fashion has this artistic appeal. The tiny carvings in each piece give it a vintage vibe and makes it ready for those warm Spring/Summer days.In addition, laser cut details are unexpected, imagine wearing a pair of light wash jeans, white t-shirt and then those white laser cut heels, it makes an instant edge.

High Neckline Nation

The 2nd detail I'm looking for is high necklines.High necklines give off 90s glamour in the best way.I remember watching Boy Meets World and constantly saw high necklines and turtle necks, which was worn with an abundance of necklaces and chains It may sound odd, but I think high necklines make the body look leaner too.

How do you approach the little details in a look?Do you care about the tiny details or do you not pay much attention to them at all?Can details make or break a look for you?

Day 24: Pursuing a Purse

Battle of the Bags

Battle of the Bags by deejaystyles featuring a black backpack
I need a new purse! Good ole faithful is in need of a rest so I decided to get a clear focus about the next bag I buy.It never fails that when I buy a new purse, I end up questioning how much I like it by the time I get in my car. Before buying something new I always find it beneficial to have a clear layout of what I want before I dive in the department store.By creating a quick image board, I develop a clear focus of what I'm after.

I've been in need of a chain link strap bag, or a canvas backpack ever since watching Clueless and sadly this need hasn't been addressed.Chain link straps serve as both a strap to the bag and jewelry in my eyes, it gives the illusion of a necklace, in fact I've seen people wear just the bag strap alone as a piece of jewelry.Canvas backpacks are just so roomy and cute at the same time.Functional fashion is always an A+ in my book.
My question for you guys today is this: what film has ever inspired you to shop?

Day 23: We're A Matching Set

Matching set outfits have been on my radar for a while now.I'll be honest I've always been hesitant of print overload but after spending almost 2 hours looking through the Solange tag on Tumblr, I'm ready to take that leap.Trying out the matching set trend is mostly about confidence and being comfortable with the fact that you look may be a little more eye catching than the usual.

Matchy Much?

I'd keep my accessories relatively low key, by opting for simple jewelry and a staple black bag, to let the prints take the spotlight.Would you give this matchy, matchy trend a try or is this waaaay out of your comfort zone?

Day 22:Crop Top Controversy

Last Summer I told myself I'd wear a crop top and kind of failed. The top I wore was like a high low, crop to hybrid. This year I bought a crop top that's actually cropped and I plan on baring my tummy to the world(or at least a little bit of it). I've finally mastered the confidence to wear the crop top comfortably, which is why I purchased this top on sale from Wet Seal.Since my fear of crop tops has come crumbling down you're probably thinking "there's nothing controversial about this top then...", you'd be wrong.

I'm a comic book lover.I'm a Marvel fan.Often my knowledge and fan credibility for Marvel tends to be questioned because I'm a girl.
I've read the horror stories of random guys approaching people and harassing them about the t-shirt they're wearing because it's Marvel themed. These random people go out of their way to figure out if the person wearing the Marvel t-shirt is a real fan or not.
What pisses me off about this invasive practice is that it's rarely done with the intention of building conversation, often its done to make someone feel inferior and someone else feel superior as a result.I don't get dressed to have some random dude ask me about the clothes I'm wearing, just so he can determine if I deserve to wear it.I wear what I wear, because I want to.POINT.BLANK.PERIOD.
Don't waste your precious time and energy entertaining foolishness. This is what it means to participate in fashion freedom, to dress for yourself and be so content in yourself that you don't have to be concerned with someone else's approval. You can apply the same fashion freedom exercise when you encounter people who think they get to determine what a "crop top ready body" is from one that isn't.
The bottom line is that there's always going to be someone out there with an opinion. You can't outrun opinions but you can build a place of comfort within yourself that will help you when you someone tries to force their opinion on you. It's not about beating the opinion down it's about having a built up enough confidence that the opinion of someone else won't matter or hold enough weight to harm you.

Day 21: Inspire Me

I was grinding my teeth through writer's and style block.I didn't feel like my eye for fashion and my passion for writing are collaborating like they used to.Honestly, I just felt-off.Like there's a button that's been pressed too many times and it's stuck inward, losing power at the same time.
I tried to pop back into my old self and bring some zest forward once more, so I worked on getting inspired. Don't knack the power of a well produced moodboard.Pictures can provoke and soothe the spirit by each glance, and right now I need to be provoked.I created the collage below of style images that spoke to me.

Looking at this image makes me want to go play dress up.Looking at this image makes me want to shop.Looking at this image makes me think of a few blog posts I could be writing right now.Staring at this set of style, relatable characters and fashion wants(i.e. the holographic clutch at the top) brings back the memories of untangled passion.Looking at this reminds me of the freedom of fashion, and freedom of fashion blogging, and suddenly I feel like my writer's block doesn't weigh so much.
What do you do to get rid of mental blocks, create, meditate or sleep it off?Let me know in the comments and lets discuss the nastiness that is the mental block.

Day 20: Is Daisy Print A Neutral?

We've seen graphic tees being paired with flannel button downs in the Winter. We've seen off the wall colors and camouflage clash in the Fall. But is this season's unpredictable print-the daisy?Daisy print no doubt is being derived from the 90s revival, but what are we going to do with it this time that we didn't do before?I remember from the 90s the go to look was a daisy printed baby doll dress and Doc Marten boots(or Timbalands), it was that mash up of tough hippie chicness that made it all the rage.

I'd love to try some more modern interpretations of this daisy print such as:
  1. We've witnessed daisy crop tops during the 90s but not the entire daisy sweater. The sweater can be dressed up and down, but for a spin on the trend I'd wear it with a pair of red skinny jeans to stand off on it's black and white print.
  2. Do I really need to explain this backpack? It's feminine, functional and coated in what's quickly becoming the new neutral for the Spring and Summer! Wear this bag with just about every casual outfit and I guarantee it will work.
  3. The last and most certainly not least, is the overall jumpsuit from Asos.Daisy print has adorned a lot of things, skater dresses, skater skirts, pinafores but never have I seen it on an entire jumpsuit. This jumpsuit is a garden of variety, I'd wear it with a striped top underneath and hot pink nails for a little punch, keeping it subtle with military boots.
What do you think of the daisy print, is it a classic go-to for the ages or a revived fad?

Day 19: The Nostalgic Selfie

Remember when the first fashion bloggers used to take their photos like the one above. It was just you, your cute outfit, a mirror and a phone. You didn't have to master the balance act of three stacked Twilight books, a Bible and your camera on the edge of a window ledge.
This post was created out of sheer, simplistic nostalgia for the beginning blogger days.Sometimes I like to see a good phone produced selfie. This post is not taking itself seriously, but bringing it back to the basics of sharing a look I quite liked and to document the day I wore black lipstick without having to mentally motivate myself to do so.

Day 18: The Sun Will Come Out...Eventually

Warby Parker is a lovely company that reached out to me recently to share it's new collection of sunglasses called, Spectrum Sun.Spectrum Sun is filled with on trend colors for the Spring and Summer. Two sunglasses in particular, the Cherry Blossom and Minnie Eucalyptus really caught my eye.I can picture wearing the Cherry Blossom pair with a white dress, and sky high wedges for a glamorous look.
The Minnie Eucalyptus pair would look great with a darker look while accessorizing with gold jewelry.
Hall Cherry Blossom
Minnie Eucalyptus

Although I love the colors of the sunglasses above, experimenting with sunglasses with print details on the lenses sounds like a good idea to me.I like that the frames are in varying neutral tones, while the lenses contrast that.

Dean Sunglasses in Oak
Downing Striped Sunglasses in Sassafras

Besides Warby Parker's excellent sunglasses, I really like this company because of its consideration of those in need. For every pair of eyeglasses that are bought,Warby Parker gives a free pair to someone less fortunate. You can help support this company and its charitable work by checking out their store here Warby Parker and don't forget to check out their sunglasses which you can see here.
